Affirmation Cards Aim: sharing thoughts and feelings, using positive phrases/affirmations to develop confidence, self-belief etc.
Use the affirmation cards to talk about feelings, emotions etc. Affirmation cards are a great way to help children think more positively and confidently. They can be used at any time, but may be especially useful if a child is going through a difficult time. They can help develop healthy thinking patterns. Let your child pick up a card and read out the message. Talk together about the message and why and how it is true.
Explain that the messages are special words that can make us feel stronger. You could have a message for the day or the child could carry the card with them.
Game for Two Players: (Adjust turn taking etc if more than two players)
Shuffle or mix up the affirmation cards and spread them out face down in front of you. Player one: take any card and place it face up in front of you. Player two: do the same. Player one: take another card. If it matches your first card put them together and read out the affirmation message.
Talk together about how the message is true for the child (or for you and the child). Ask them to think of instances where the message is true for them. Continue taking turns to take a card and talk about the messages that can be paired. When all the cards have been taken, remove all the matched pairs from the game, shuffle the remaining cards and repeat the game again with the cards not yet matched.
